EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING

Educational Counseling to Help Your Child Thrive

Is your child struggling in school or socially? Do you see them wrestling with anxiety, difficulty paying attention, strong emotions, or trouble making friends? You're not alone. Many children face these challenges, and there's help available outside of their school. Educational counseling may include:

  • Individual Counseling: One-on-one sessions where your child can talk about their feelings and learn new skills.

  • Parent Consultation: Meetings with you to discuss your child’s progress and strategies you can use at home to support your child.

  • School Collaboration: Working with your child's teachers to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Educational Counseling for Support at Home and at School

Educational counseling with a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP) can make a real difference because an LEP is a highly trained professional who specializes in understanding how children learn and behave. Think of them as detectives for your child's learning and emotional well-being. They can pinpoint the root of your child's struggles and create a plan to help them succeed. How can educational counseling help my child?

Here are some common areas where support can be provided:

  • Academic Support: Success at school can be difficult due to lack of motivation and confidence when learning is hard. I can help your child find their strengths and discover new strategies for finding success.

  • Anxiety: Worries and fears can hold kids back from enjoying school and social situations. I can teach your child coping strategies like deep breathing and positive self-talk to manage their anxiety and build confidence!

  • ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder): Kids with ADHD often have trouble focusing, sitting still, and following directions. I can help your child develop organizational skills, learn strategies to improve concentration, and understand how their brain works. They can also work with you and your child's teachers to create a supportive learning environment.

  • Emotional Regulation: Everyone has big feelings sometimes. But when a child has trouble managing their emotions, it can lead to outbursts, difficulty making friends, and problems at school. I can help your child understand their feelings, learn healthy ways to express them, and develop problem-solving skills.

  • Social Skills: Making and keeping friends can be tough. I can teach your child important social skills like how to start a conversation, how to handle disagreements, and how to understand other people's feelings. This can help them build stronger relationships and feel more confident in social situations both at home and at school with peers or adults.

As an LEP, I have specialized training in education and psychology, making me uniquely qualified to help children with learning, developmental, and emotional challenges. Whether it is stemming from disorders such as Autism, ADHD, anxiety, or just plain growing pains, I understand the connection between how your child learns and how they feel. Working alongside of parents, I can provide the support and guidance your child needs to reach their full potential alongside of their parents and families.
